Sound is really important to us, as we are sure it is to you too. HD25 has a precise and balanced sound signature with great detail all along the sound spectrum, they are often used as reference headphones. Still we want to give you some control over how your headphones sound. Changing pads is the most effective way to change the stock Sound Signature of your headphones. They determine how the sound is absorbed, reflected and travels through the different materials. But also how much empty space there is for the sound to get full representation.
We find pad selection is a subjective matter, that depends on personal taste, sound sensibilities and ear geometry. For that reason we prefer to support you with key comparative information starting from a well known common ground; your Sennheiser Hd25 stock pads.
Please, have an honest listening session with your stock HD25 headphones. Be clear about what you want to improve or which sounds you prefer to recess or gain. Choose wisely and Good luck.
They are definitely good pads and create a good soundstage with clear and bright sound. They are not ideal for treble sensitive ears and some people might miss bass extension and detail. As our comparative reference pad, the chart displays all at 50%.
Extremely comfortable pads, ideal to wear for long hours. Because the Alcantara inner textile sound is absorbed and less direct, there is less instrument separation and clarity, but more body and warmth to the sound. The bass is increased and mids are recessed, overall the Frequency response does have a flatter curve than with any other pad. Top Comfort on materials and sound.
Type B pads are comfy and quite neutral. Thanks to greater volumetric space the bass has more body; it’s deeper and more detailed. Punch on the Low-Mids is atenuated and Mids and Treble are as the original. Thanks to the stronger bass treble gets a bit recessed, making them ideal for treble sensitive ears. Oh.. and they look dope!
Same form factor as original pads, but with thicker leather and harder foam that make them stiffer. You experience a more direct response to sound. The Low-Mid punch gets more prominent and the sound is focused on the mids, becoming really clear and bright… in your face sound… I would avoid them if you have treble sensitive ears.
The next Frequency response graph shows the differences between the stock pads and the YAXI Comfort, Type B and Leather pads. On the frequency response one line can be lower than another; but this does not mean that is worse. Instead, this change the relation between lower-mid-trebble frequencies, creating a different sound signature that could fit better your needs.Â
